American Born Chinese

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is this year's Printz Award winner. I read this graphic novel on our snow day this week and really didn't expect to like it so much! There are three story lines, including a fable of the Monkey King, carried through until they are all tied together at the end. American Born Chinese delivers a message of not only being happy with what you are, but making the most of what you are.

Try it, I think you'll like it, even if you aren't a graphic novel fan.

What Happened to Cass McBride?

Cass McBride has been buried alive with only a walkie talkie to communicate with her kidnapper. Who kidnapped her? Why was she kidnapped? Will she escape? Gale Giles has written a edge of your seat suspenseful novel once again. I read this novel in one evening!

Animanga Dance Club?

We did get a couple of episodes of Moon Phase shown last night! The rest of the time we gave our new dance pad a good workout! Twenty teens came for our monthly Animanga Meeting and everyone left with treats and freebies. I hope you had a great time, I sure did!

By the way, I found out this morning that there are other games we can play on the dance pad. We'll definitely try them all out.

The next meeting is March 7, 5 pm. Patti Malenke will be showing us a collection of samurai swords from the museum and talking about samurai soldiers. If you were at the marathon last August and remember Nate Malenke, the JET teacher that talked to us about teaching in Japan? Patti is his mom!

The Cosplay is scheduled for April 13, yes FRIDAY THE 13TH, after hours in the large meeting room. We'll create a backdrop for taking photos, single and in posed groups, if you like. Anyone who wants to help create the backdrop or has good ideas for one, please tell me! We may also have a lead to have the Naruto video game to play and yes, we can have the dance pad out! :) I'm also listening for party food ideas for that night.

Hope your first day back to school this week is a good one!
