Beautiful City of the Dead

On Zee's first day in a new school, she meets Relly, a guitarist in his own band. Zee joins the four member band, Scorpio Bone, as the bass player and their own kind of music, Ghost Metal, comes together. Music isn't the only magic happening in the band and soon Zee understands she is the god of water that the band needed to be complete. But three other people are looking for her to complete their fire, earth, wind and water four and no more... a creepy biology teacher, the threatening principal and Scratch, who appears in different forms. A supernatural rock and roll thriller.

Teens Talk Books

The Teens Talk Books Club met at the library Thursday to talk about books and have pizza. the group looked over a stack of new nonfiction books and some new paperbacks and discussed what they're reading:

Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Chase saw the movie and decided to read the book afterwards. He says the book is much better as there are many details not in the movie and the ending is different. Aaron agreed the movie wasn't nearly as good as the book. Eragon is the first of the Inheritance Trilogy.

The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler
Chase also read this one by the author of the Lemony Snicket books. Flannery Culp, 19, is incarcerated for murder. She is rewriting her high school journals, annotating them to tell the real story. The Basic Eight, Flannery and her seven friends, begin experimenting with adulthood by throwing dinner parties and carrying flasks and then drugs.

The Sword in the Stone by T. H. White
Aaron is reading this tale of young Wart who is destined to pull Ex Calibur from the stone to become King Arthur of England. Aaron is also rereading all the Harry Potter books in preparation for the new one!

A Fly on the Wall by E. Lockhart
Arieanda says this one was weird! Gretchen attends an art school and one day wishes to become a fly on the wall. The next morning, she is just that and she hangs around the boys' locker room discovering more than she ever wanted to know about boys!

The Holy Bible
Arieona was cleaning her room and began browsing the Bible and found several interesting stories to read.

Arien hasn't had a chance to read a book this week, but did listen to her young neighbor, who is learning to read, read the same book three times! Way to go, Arien! :)

Insomnia by Stephen King
Travis loves Stephen King and other horror writers but has had a hard time getting through Insomnia. He says he is half way through and nothing has happened except the guy can't sleep! He and Chase both agreed that the Gunslinger was way better.

The Teens Talk Books Club will meet again on May 31 in the large meeting room at 4 pm.

American Born Chinese

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is this year's Printz Award winner. I read this graphic novel on our snow day this week and really didn't expect to like it so much! There are three story lines, including a fable of the Monkey King, carried through until they are all tied together at the end. American Born Chinese delivers a message of not only being happy with what you are, but making the most of what you are.

Try it, I think you'll like it, even if you aren't a graphic novel fan.

What Happened to Cass McBride?

Cass McBride has been buried alive with only a walkie talkie to communicate with her kidnapper. Who kidnapped her? Why was she kidnapped? Will she escape? Gale Giles has written a edge of your seat suspenseful novel once again. I read this novel in one evening!
