Summer Reading Has Begun!

This is what's happening for teens this week at the Coshocton Public Library:

Monday: Pick up program flyers and book rating slips in the YA room.

Tuesday: Teen Writers Club 4-5 pm.

Wednesday: Plugged and Unplugged 2-5 pm, Animanga Club 5-7 pm.

Thursday: Movie and a Craft 2-4 pm. this week featuring Waterhorse and Hardwear Jewelry.

Friday: Teen Book Club 2-4 pm.

Reminder

We are using the outside entrance to the meeting room for Plugged and Unplugged. It is located by the side parking lot.

This will help reduce the noise and commotion for our other patrons.

Duane M. Abel, cartoonist for ZED comics, will be leading a comics drawing workshop this evening at 7 pm at the Coshocton Public Library. After the workshop, Duane will autograph his comics, available for only $4 each. One lucky teen will win a whole set! Click here to sign up now!

It's Teen Read Week!

Teen Read Week is an initiative from YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) to celebrate teens and reading and libraries. Coshocton Public Library celebrates every year with a display, a survey, a prize giveaway and a special program.


Check out the cool Teen Read Week display case at the library. The design was chosen by the Teen Advisory Board and photos of teens at the programs throughout the year are featured.

Pick up a survey in the young adult room and tell us what you like to read. Take the survey to the reference desk and pick out a prize bag!

Come to "Cartooning with Duane" on Thursday night. Duane Abel, the cartoonist for ZED comics will be conducting a drawing workshop for teens. 7 to 8 pm. Sign up here!

Animanga Club Meeting AND New Type Magazine!

Our next Animanga Club meeting will be Wednesday, September 5, 5-7 pm. Come early to Plugged and Unplugged (2-5 pm) and check out our new wii games and PS2 with Guitar Hero 2!
Let's plan a marathon this fall!

We just got our first issue of New Type! The new issue is kept at the main desk, where you can sign it out to read in the library. When the next issue comes, the past issues will be kept in the YA room.

Back to School

Two days left and then school is back in session! Let the library help you make this the best school year ever!

We have high speed Internet access and databases for researching and homework. You can reserve computer time by calling the library at 622-0956.

We have the books you need for book reports and book discussions, plus Cliff Notes and Masterplots.

We have Plugged and Unplugged after school on Wednesdays, 2-5 pm, in the large meeting room where you can do homework, visit with friends, snack, and hang out. Board and video games, movies, and Internet will be ready and waiting.

We have magazines, graphic novels, comic books, music, and movies for when you need a break at home.

Make visiting the library part of your school schedule!

Summer Reading Program Finale

Sunday, July 29, 7:30 to 9 pm, is the Pool Party at the Lake Park Aquatic Center. Free for all SRP participants, but you must pick up your ticket at the library this week!

Final weekly prize drawing is this week and the $50 grand prize drawing will be at the pool party. Finish up anything you are reading and get your rating slips in for more chances to win!

Teens Talk Books will meet Thursday, 4-5 pm to talk about Agatha Christie books.

MONOPOLY Champ!


Kris Hains, age 18, is the 2007 Teen Monopoly Tournament champ! Kris was the high scoring player in the final round Saturday afternoon at the library. Kris won $50 in Coshocton County Bucks and a new MONOPOLY game.

The players enjoyed a pizza lunch, other prizes and trying out the new Nintendo wii purchased by the library.

Thank you to the Friends of the Library for the prize money and pizza lunch, Hasbro for the MONOPOLY games and the Coshocton Foundation for the funds to purchase the wii.

Teen Film Contest Winner

The Coshocton Public Library Teen Filmmaking Contest culminated in a Teen Film Festival last night at the library. The films were reviewed and scored by the audience to determine the People's Choice Award of $50 in Coshocton County Bucks.

The winners were Derek Tupper and Andy Ketcham for "The Newscast".

The audience also participated in a DVD game, Shout About Movies.

Refreshments and prizes were provided by the Friends of Coshocton Public Library.

This week @ the library

We had our first prize drawing for YNK @ the library and 6 lucky teens won cool backpacks, purses, and totes with mystery prizes inside! There were 83 entries in the drawing.

Wednesday is Plugged and Unplugged Game Day. Open time on the laptops, video and board games for teens only, ages 12 to 19, in the large meeting room.

Poetry Slam Winners!


Each year during National Poetry Month, area high schools are invited to send their teen poets to share their art in a slam competition at the library. In last night's slam two area high schools were represented, Ridgewood High School and River View High School, as the poets presented their work to an appreciative audience of teens, parents, teachers, and grandparents. An open mic session followed the competition. All the poets received journals to encourage them to keep writing.

The winners:
1st place: Tricia Malloy, Ridgewood High School. Tricia won a trophy for her school and a $25 gift card.
2nd place: Donnie Fuller, River View High School. Donie won a $20 gift card.
3rd place: Kayla Welch, Ridgewood High School. Kayla won a $15 gift card.
4th place: Seneca Douglas, Ridgewood High School. Seneca won a $10 gift card.

Winter Short Story Contest Winners Announced

Congratulations to Laura Stuckey and Chase Will, the tied winners for the winter teen short story contest. the theme was "ice and snow". Three Teen Advisory Board members and two library staff members judge the stories.
Laura wrote a fantasy adventure entitled "The White Mountains" and Chase's story, "Seasonals" was a bit of a Christmas horror story with a twist at the end. Both winners will receive a $25. gift card.

Closing early
